Matilda was undeniably the film of my childhood and as it was born as the same year as myself, 1996, I believe it has rightfully earned it's place on this very retro blog. To this day, I still absolutely adore this film and my most recent watch of this classic inspired me to right this blog post.

Matilda is teaming with life lessons and whittling my ideas down to a suitable size suitable for a blog post was more difficult than anticipated, but here they are...

Top 5 Lessons To Be Learnt From My Childhood Classic, Matilda

1. Reading is good!

I think today - more than ever - the importance of reading is completely overlooked. Whether it is a blog post like this one, or a meaty novel to really get you teeth into, I think everyone should be reading. Reading may allow you to escape reality for a little while, or help you enrich your business idea or your studies. When we read, we improve our memory, our focus and concentration all unknowingly - so what isn't there to love?! Matilda does set the bar of quantity of books extremely high though...

2. Teachers can either inspire or intimidate...

There is a lot to be said for those teachers who do nothing but support, care and ultimately inspire us through school, just like Miss Honey. However, Miss Trunchball's method leaves a lot to be desired. Although Trunchball was genuinely terrifying when I was younger and Miss Honey was quite the opposite, as an adult I see that we all have a choice. We decide everyday when we wake up whether we are going to be Miss Honey or Miss Trunchball, and I know which one I would rather be... (Although my "inner Trunchball" may make an appearance occasionally!)

3. Never listen to those who say anything like, "I'm smart, you're dumb. I'm big, you're little. I'm right you're wrong!"

Perhaps a little self explanatory but in case you need clarification - if someone tells you you're not good enough, tell them to stick it!

Don't let anybody tell you you're not worth it

4. Dance like nobody is watching!

Perhaps one of my favourite scenes from the classic film, I genuinely love it when Matilda starts to dance around her living room after making inanimate objects spring to life! The innocence of this scene is so important, and was definitely in the film to remind us not to take life too seriously - a dance will always make you feel better...

5. You can do anything with the right support network

Whether you feel like giving up on something, always remember you have your friends and your family. Just like Matilda had her best friend, Lavender, who was always around to help fight Matilda's corner. Or, even how Bruce Bogtrotter, with a little help from his friends, managed to completely demolish that chocolate cake!

Let me know your thoughts!

If I've told you lovely lot once, I've told you a thousand times - I want to know what you think! Are you a massive fan of this lovely, heart-warming film like me? Or has it been yeeeears since you last put the Matilda video into the video player? *Yes, that long ago!*
