First released in 2002, Lilo & Stitch became a family favourite in no time. This tale follows an independent young girl, Lilo, as she has an extremely close encounter with Stitch - a genetic experiment which had escaped from an alien planet before landing on Earth. Lilo names Stitch "dog" and through her unrelenting belief in Ohana, the Hawaiian concept of family, the unlikely friendship blossoms.
And because we love Lilo & Stitch so much, I've come up with 5 lessons we can all take away from the Disney top hit.

1. OHANA MEANS FAMILY. FAMILY MEANS NOBODY GETS LEFT BEHIND OR FORGOTTEN

Personally, I don't think this one needs much of an explanation. Throughout the whole film there is an indescribable feeling of warmth and loveliness.
The underrated Disney hit sends out a clear message of belonging, and as long as you surround yourself with people that love and care for you, you will always find your place.

2. PEOPLE CAN SURPRISE YOU
Proven by Stitch as he resisted his natural urge to be destructive when he saved Lilo, everyone has the capability to surprise you.
A leopard really can change it's spots after all - if they want to!

3. LIFE IS A LOT EASIER WHEN YOU CAN LAUGH ABOUT IT!

Although this classic does get dark at times, Stitch still manages to smile and laugh!
And maybe we should all learn from the lovable genetic experiment and try to do the same when life gets us down.
4. BEING FEMALE SHOULDN'T STOP YOU FROM BEING A LEADER
The Grand Councilwoman is one of the most feared characters in Lilo & Stitch among her male counterparts, and although you don't really think about this aspect of the story line when you're young, it definitely makes you think as you become older.
Well done you clever writers...

5. SIBLINGS ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR EACH OTHER

Okay, so maybe you fight with your brothers and sisters constantly, just like Lilo and Nani did throughout the ups and downs of the film.
However, Lilo and Nani also proved that there will never be a bond quite like that with someone you have shared your childhood with, and no matter how much you fight and argue, your siblings will always truly have your back.
So whether you regularly watch this Disney classic or cannot remember the last time you witnessed Lilo & Stitch's adventures unfold, then why not get comfy on the couch this weekend and forget the Royal Wedding for a little while? You won't be disappointed!
